Survivor-centered Thrillers

Every Story Starts with a Thought, Moment, or memory.

As a suspenseful crime fiction and psychological thriller author, my writing process is about plotting twists that push my characters to and sometimes over the edge. I make them face and fight their biggest fears.

My characters don’t just move through danger — they evolve because of the threat, becoming a better, stronger version of themselves in the end. That's if they manage to survive.

Creating Characters is where my stories begin.

I first start by creating a protagonist. I then ask myself, what's the character’s worst possible nightmare? they can possibly face. What would completely destroy their world as they know and love it. I then create their insecurities, their flaws, and the demons they carry, which are carefully stored away. The lies they were told and their beliefs, along with their appearance and quirks they may have and their mannerisms.

I then create a strong antagonist and their reasoning as to why they are doing what they are. Again, I form a general description.

I then create strong secondary characters. People who may not be a part of the battle but are the protagonist's reason and their strength for continuing to fight when all seems lost.

Survivor-Centered Thrillers

A World Built on Fear, Lies, and the Fight to Escape

Once I have strong characters and the basic plot thought out, I allow my characters to take it over from there. Let them tell their story the way they see fit.

Some writers claim outlining is the way to go. If that works the best for you, then outline away.Â
